Local Law Enforcement Partners with the New Mexico Organized Retail Crime Association

The Clovis Police Department wants to announce a new program that partners law enforcement with local retailers. A group of retailers, law enforcement, and regional and state legislatures have come together to create a task force called the New Mexico Organized Retail Crime Association (NMORCA). NMORCA is cooperating with local businesses and shares information on retail theft and any organizations involved in retail theft. The goal is to prevent these incidents, reduce losses, and prevent unnecessary price increases for merchandise.
 
Near the end of July, an operation was conducted in Clovis focusing on two retail businesses. The plan included a two-day operation with officers from the Clovis Police Department (Special Operations Unit), Clovis Police Patrol Division, and investigators from the New Mexico Department of Justice. During this operation, 4 persons were arrested and transported to the Curry County Detention Center, 6 Criminal Summons were issued for shoplifting, and 10 persons trespassed from these businesses. The results of this operation proved that a coordinated effort between law enforcement and business proprietors can and will reduce retail crime, and will reduce some need for increased costs for goods.
