Clovis, New Mexico – Clovis Community College’s Business and Non-Credit Training Manager, Al Potthoff, has put together another great summer for CCC’s 2017 Kids’ College program. The array of classes has expanded to include more variety, to appeal to all ages alike, and more flexibility in scheduling with some shorter duration classes. The Interactive Science Museum will also once again host a free family night in June and July for all ages.

The classes and events offered through Kids’ College provide opportunities for youth to explore science, channels to express their own creativity, introductions to different cultures, and physical activities that make one feel better. “I think that perhaps the most important thing Kids’ College offers the young learner is the opportunity to discover. If they are curious about something or if it simply sounds like fun, then it is both interesting and fun for the student. Learning, in this situation, is neither an obligation nor a chore, but a happy side-effect of indulging in your summertime pursuits. Learning can be a treasure hunt, and the hunt is quite as valuable as the treasure,” says Potthoff. He also feels that the instructors are the true leaders for Kids’ College. “They have a tremendous expertise in fascinating areas, are gifted in guiding the young learners to gain their own understanding of the subject, and love their work,” he adds.

Kids College not only welcomes participants, but family members are encouraged to be involved as well. “In addition to an enjoyable experience for the young person, I believe it is important for the family to participate in Kids’ College. Siblings can be in the same class. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to watch, join in, and help out. Parents and guardians don’t just pay the fee and arrange transportation. Kids College classes are family events. Everybody learns,” says Potthoff.
Registration is required for all fee-based Kids’ College classes; however, there are several free events in which registration isn’t necessary. A minimum number of students is required for a class to be held, so early registration is encouraged. A number of classes have limited enrollment and fill quickly. Classes and times are subject to change. Please reference for information updates.
